Available Positions: VOLUNTEER DRIVERS

Imagine that you had an important doctor's appointment in a nearby town, but you had no way to get there. No car, no family or friends willing to take you, no local taxi service to rely on (and even if there was, no money to afford it!). What would you do? Or imagine that you are a senior whose eyesight is failing and whose license has been revoked. How would you get your groceries? How would you participate in recreation? How would you cope with suddenly being cut off from life outside your home?

Sou'West Nova Transit isn't just about providing transportation. It's about providing hope. And you can be a part of helping your neighbours in Shelburne County experience this hope by becoming a volunteer driver!

Here's how it works:

  • A client contacts our central booking office to request a trip.
  • Our dispatcher contacts volunteer drivers in the client's geographic area who have indicated they would be available the date of the trip, and based on their willingness and availability, one is assigned.
  • The assigned driver will, in their own vehicle, pick up the client at their door and drop them off at their destination. Then, when the appointment is over or at a pre-arranged time, the driver will bring the client back home again.
  • The driver will collect a fare from the client, and in the provided log write down the details of the trip, including the mileage from point A to point B.
  • The driver will submit the log and fare, and be reimbursed for mileage, parking and applicable meals.

Becoming a volunteer driver is a meaningful and fulfilling way to give back to the community, and to help people who are truly in need. And the more volunteers we have, the more people we can help! Download our volunteer information package to learn more!
